As the son of the famous Chesty Puller, Lewis is provided with many luxuries and suffers from the jealousy of others. While living at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, Lewis is provided with all the privileges accorded a General's son. The Marine Corps provides his family with a nice home, a butler, a cook, yard workers, a military aide, and a driver. Other boys living on base sometimes attack and beat up Lewis because of his privileged life. These attacks continue until Chesty's early retirement from the Marine Corps.
