In the novel, For the Sake of Elena, George employs a standard narrative, which is entirely in keeping with the mystery genre. She begins the novel with Elena's murder and the investigation begins. The main protagonists are introduced, after which another murder takes place. Clues are discovered and pieces are put into place by Lynley and Havers and the final resolution comes in Chapter 22. Furthermore, also in keeping with the genre, by the end of Elizabeth George's novel, all of the narrative loose ends have been resolved. Elena Weaver's murder is solved as well as that of Georgina Higgins-Hart. Sergeant Havers' mother is safely tucked away at Mrs. Flo's Hawthorn Lodge, while Penelope Rodgers rediscovers her passion for art. Inspector Lynley and Lady Helen begin a new phase in their relationship.
