Australia is the novel's main setting.

The Moore River Settlement was the location where half-caste Aboriginal children, who were fathered by Englishmen, were placed to receive an education. Molly, Gracie and Daisy were all sent to Moore River.

Fremantle was a coastal town where Molly, Gracie and Daisy were taken by ship. It was a part of their journey to their new home at the Moore River Settlement.
