Chapter 9:

Paine escaped from jail but didn't have to go to the trouble because he was going to be released. Paine is not presenting the best role model for his children, especially for Noah. Although he's acting out of principle, he's not teaching his son that to make a difference, one has to go about making changes in the right way—not by breaking the law. Paine still has a chance to redeem himself in Noah's eyes. When he hears that Lice might be dead, he takes responsibility for it. If Lice is alive, perhaps Paine can save him and win the respect and admiration of his wife and children.
