One internal conflict in the novel, Flush, is Noah's inner struggle as to what subjects he can discuss with his mother and what he can't. He wants to ask her if she plans to divorce his father but is conflicted..... possibly because he doesn't really want to know.

An external conflict (man versus society) can be found in the community's refusal to believe Noah's father about the waste that is illegally being dumped into the ocean.
