How does the author use foreshadowing in Flipped?

In Chapter One, we see that Bryce's plans to ditch Juli might just blow up in his face, and the author could be foreshadowing a completely different scenario. Girls mature quicker than boys, and Juli is a cute little girl, who might turn into a pretty pre-teen. Bryce may well have a change of heart when he looks at Juli with different eyes. He may begin to appreciate her intelligence and strong spirit. The tables may turn on Bryce and he might eventually be following Juli around.
