Ro Leap is the village where Loung and her family finally settle after their first few months on the road, fleeing Phnom Penh. It is a location filled with negative associations, as here, the family experiences starvation, brutal work regimens, abuse and intimidation, and more. The village chief takes a liking to Pa and favores him for a while, leading to their family faring slightly better than those around them. In this village, no one knows about Pa's background, and the family works hard to keep it that way until one day, Pa is executed after the soldiers presumably find out. In Ro Leap, Ma and Geak are also killed, while Khouy, Meng, and Keav are sent away to different locations. This is the same village where Kim is abused by the chief's sons, therefore this village is the site of many horrors experiences by the various members of the family.
