Who is Fran Poarch from First, Do No Harm and what is their importance?

Fran Poarch and her husband Carey lovingly plan for the birth of their twins. Unfortunately, Fran goes into labor prematurely, losing the second born of the twins (Jake) after only a few hours. The couple's firstborn child is a daughter. She spends weeks on a ventilator before her parents agree they are merely keeping her alive. Afterward, they are comfortable with their decision.
