What factors must the Ethics Committee consider in deciding how to treat Patrick in the novel, First, Do No Harm?

The central line that is being used to deliver nutrients to Patrick was never intended to be more than a temporary fix. It is prone to infection, and the antibiotics that prevent infection cause Patrick enormous suffering. The surgery to replace the line is also very risky.
