What is the author's tone in the memoir, Finding Me?

As in any tale about being taken and lost and alone, there are many references in “Finding Me” about feeling depressed, isolated and hopeless. But just when Michelle gets down, she seemed to be able to spring back and think positively about her future – a future she wasn’t even sure was possible. But Michelle persevered.
