A recurring idea in the book is unhealthy relationships. For Marianne, her relationships were always some sort of power struggle. Most prominently featured in the book is Marianne's relationship with Mick Jagger. This relationship was obviously quite unhealthy. Marianne does describe some good times. She felt Mick was very intelligent and romantic. She also felt that he sought to protect her. On the other hand, their days together were full of fighting, cheating on one another and doing drugs.
