Mildred loves the seashells in her ears and she loves the family that is on the interactive televisiion. She is never without someone around her and the noise is part of what keeps her from thinking too deeply. She does not want to do that. She wants to live in a world where someone is always talking and interacting. Obviously, he does not think she would do well with silence and the quiet that comes from being alone in the countryside.
