When the police come to the Lee's home, they tell the Lees that lots of teenagers leave home without warning. Girls are often mad at their parents, and their parents don't even know. The police then circulate in Lydia's room, looking around, before telling the Lees that most missing-girl cases resolve themselves in twenty-four hours.
