Why does Carla warn Madeline about her behavior in “A Tale of Two Maddys"?

Carla warns Madeline that Madeline's mother is concerned about her and that she is acting distracted. Madeline's mother is bound to be suspicious because Madeline has cancelled several of their mother-daughter nights.
