Question: English & Literature

What do we learn about human nature from Kindred and Cousin?

This is from the old morality play called Everyman. Kindred and Cousin are two of the characters that will not go with Everyman. They desert him like so many others. Cousin says he’d rather fast for five years on bread and water than accompany Everyman. Kindred, for his part, tells Everyman to cheer up and stop moaning (“Take good heart to you, and make no moan”) – but all the same, Everyman shall “go alone”. What we learn from this, then, is that people promise things that they never intend to do....such as Cousin and Kindred.
