This novel is a non-chronological first-person illustration of Ada’s experiences. The fact that the novel continually jumps from one moment in Ada’s life to another moment in the recent or distant past. Through this tool of non-chronological writing, the reader is able to visit and learn about experiences from Ada’s early life and childhood in which she endured pain or learned something about herself, her environment, her life, her family, or about the societal pressures that surrounded her, the reader is able to understand more about her present-day choices by referencing her early-life experiences. This practice of jumping back and forth between moments in Ada’s life also potentially illustrates flashbacks that Ada is having herself in the manner that someone might feel triggered by present-day events in a way that makes them immediately think of past events in their life.
