Culture is defined in more than one way by the author. It is best viewed as a powerful medium that has a direct and indirect complex of influences upon every living mind. Culture includes everything from language/s used and accents, to the sum total of the legislation and political organization of a location. American culture, English culture, and these in relation to European culture are Emerson's focus during the book.
