Miguel demonstrates his maturity, readiness for action, and his leadership skill, as he assists his father in traversing the fields and successfully helping Esperanza and her mother to escape their home.

Miguel is showing great strength while they are leaving the ranch by helping his father lead them out of the situation. He is different from Esperanza because Esperanza is nervous, while Miguel is brave.
