What is implied by word 'recovering' in below part and why is this ironic?

'Ah, poor Miss Taylor! She would be very glad to stay.'

There was no recovering Miss Taylor. _ nor much likelihood of ceasing to pity her; but a few weeks brought some alleviation to Mr Woodhouse.

I think this alludes to getting Miss. Taylor back to the way she used to be.
