The meaning of life is a recurring idea. At first glance, this novel appears to be about death. The author begins with Lizzie's death on Earth and the impact it has on the people in her family. However, in truth this is just the beginning of Lizzie's story. In her death, Lizzie begins to understand what it is that makes a life meaningful.
