The Hundred Dresses is about a poor immigrant girl who is so poor she only has one dress. She wears this same dress to school every day and is mocked by the other children. She claims she has a hundred dresses, but she is not believed and the insults are so cruel that she is forced to move. Later, the children learn the girl possessed one hundred beautiful drawings of dresses. Codell claims it is a very moving book, with themes of tolerance and kindness.
