What does Jasper say about the first few years of being a vampire?

Jasper tells Bella how he was a soldier fighting in the American Civil War in Texas when he was turned into a vampire by a woman attempting to build a newborn army to steal hunting grounds from other vampires. For many years Jasper became a leader in this newborn army and helped the woman steal many territories.
