What irony does the author point out in "A Case for Eating Dogs"?

The author points out that it is ironic that there is plenty of meat on the planet, but that each culture perceives what animals can be eaten differently. For example, dogs are eaten in some regions and horses in others. Pigs have the same intelligence of dogs, but they are perceived as meat rather than pets.
