Cathy Ames is the primary antagonist. Charles and Cyrus are also antagonists. Cal, however, begins in the form of Cain (story of Cain and Abel) and transitions into a protagonist, utilizing 'timshel' (or the power for humans to opt for good or evil) to guide his actions.
