Parker utilizes the first person perspective to allow the reader access to Spenser's thoughts. His sarcasm and humor are presented as an integral part of the story, but it should be noted that the majority of this is presented as part of the dialog, and there is little presented to the reader in terms of Spenser's thoughts or private ideas.
