In "A Saucer of Loneliness" (E Pluribus Unicorn, 1953) the two protagonists remain nameless, and relatively little information is given about them. What is important is that they embody both the desperate loneliness of people never accepted for who and what they are, and the possibility of fulfillment in reaching out to the loneliness of others.
