Brisbane is the site of many important events for the author: Taylor and Shin have lived in Brisbane since 1998, their sons grew up there and went to school there, and Taylor's mother passed away there. Though she feels comforted by its familiarity, Taylor does not feel like Brisbane is 'home' because she arrived there as an adult and thus was not formed by the city to a great extent. She loves it for its association with her own loved ones, but otherwise does not feel a connection to it herself.
