The author’s tone in Dying: A Memoir is extremely nostalgic at times and extremely unsentimental at others. The vacillation between these two tones is what gives Taylor’s book so much dynamism and makes it compelling to read. Likewise, it is significant that the author’s tone switches according to what she is talking about.
