One major theme in the novel, Drown, is the American Dream. The dream Yunior's father follows as he moves his family from Santo Domingo to the United States... a place he believes will afford his family a nice home.... a place that he can have his own business. Unfortunately, a huge portion of that dream is shattered when he leaves his wife and family for another woman.
