And I wish I could say it was for a good reason, like I was running late, or I didn't understand that he wanted to talk to me, or I just plain spaced out. But the truth is, I didn't stop because even though Arvin seemed harmless and sweet in the clinic, he made me nervous out on the street.” (Part I: Chapter 17, “Rowan” )

This quote in important because Rowan is admitting to a level of prejudice of her own, even though she has argued that she is not living the sheltered life of a rich girl. She sees herself as without prejuduce and bias, but in certain circumstances, she finds her own observations to be incorrect.
