In Chapter Four, the reader learns that Pona dislikes Menolly. The other girls consider Pona their leader, thus, they too are unfriendly. This reaction foreshadows trouble for Menolly, suggesting that Pona's jealousy will get in the way of Menolly's happiness at Harpers Craft Hall.
