One major theme in the novel, Doomsday Book, is that of history's repeating itself. This theme is illustrated through the plague epidemic Kirvin experiences when she travels back to the past, something that directly coincides with the excavation of the cemetery where those victims were buried in present time.... something that causes a new epidemic hundreds of years later.
