Significance of Prism

The prism is a gift that Steve gave to April before the story started. April leaves it behind in Virginia, but it is packed up and sent to Lorelei for storage. In the epilogue April watches an attractive boy pick out a prism for his mother and she decides to hang her own prism as it now represents a new beginning and an acceptance of a new reality.
