The narrator explains in the foreword that Petey, "world's most morally conflicted cat," (11) often struggles to stay on the right side of the law. As a result, Li'l Petey has been staying with Dog Man and the robot 80-HD throughout his father Petey's last stint in jail and "together, the three friends have become a family" (14).
