Camaraderie is a recurring idea. In any work situation camaraderie develops. In war, this bonding takes on extreme levels as soldiers depend on each other for their lives, and correspondents take risks beyond normal journalism. Michael Herr portrays an automatic acceptance among the ranks of war correspondents, whether they like each other or not. The intensity of common war experiences eliminates normal social distinctions and personal discriminations.
