While the identification of Sex as a major narrative theme in this novel may seem somewhat simplistic, there is a good deal of evidence to suggest quite the opposite. To begin, with the exception of lesser characters (Paul Brennan and Helene, Stone Barrington's housekeeper, for example), all of the characters in Dirt are involved in sexual relationships of one sort or another.
