What does Bone Density represent?

Bone density is symbolic for the reduction of spirit resulting from toxic, complicated marriages plagued with infidelity. In the short story “Bone Density”, the main character is accused for her smoking habits – her husband claims that it reduces her bone density. This reduction in bone density is symbolic for her dwindling spirit and faith in her husband’s fidelity, resulting in her becoming less of a woman by her own definition.
