What is the author's style in Democracy by Joan Didion?

Didion uses repetition from time to time throughout the novel, and it is one of her stylistic trademarks. She uses the words from the end of one sentence to begin the next. She also separates repeated phrases so that each is on a separate line, in a paragraph of its own. The is referred to as "padding."
