Charley is definitely the foil for Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. All of the good and wholesome lessons that a parent is supposed to teach their child, Charley does. His son, Bernard, then, ends up very successful in the end, attending an ivy league school and becoming a hotshot lawyer. He has been loving and supportive, and did not belittle or antagonize his son like Willy did his two sons.
