The setting of the novel works perfectly, because it conjures up images of everyday, suburban America where things are calm, quiet, and in order. Thus, Ben's arrival, the mystery surrounding him, and the mystery of Camelia's stalker are given added gravity and an ominous sense of danger given the tranquil setting.
