An important idea is why love should be rejected. Despite having given an enormous amount of advice on how to acquire love and maintain it, Capellanus seems to believe that courtly love is, on net, a cost to those who engage in it. In order to undermine the rest of his claims, Capellanus proceeds to argue that love should be rejected.
