Who is Uncle Charlie from The Winner and what is their importance?

When LuAnn first goes to New York City to claim her lottery prize, she is escorted by one of Jackson's employees. This mystery man is the strong and silent type. He used to play semi-pro football, and his body still shows his years of athletic training, however, he is starting to age a bit. LuAnn knows no one in the city and recognizes that he is there to help her. However, she also knows that Jackson and his affiliates only have her best interests at heart when the end result is mutually beneficial. Therefore, she is slightly suspicious. Despite her reservations, something inside tells her that he is a good man.
