How does the author use foreshadowing in Daughters of the House?

In Chapter Twenty-One, Roberts once again shows evidence of Thérèse's burning of objects. Over the course of the novel, the objects she burns come to symbolize unwelcome truths and sins. In this chapter, however, Thérèse and Léonie burn a "baby" doll, which foreshadows Thérèse's setting fire to the church.
