The novel is divided into 63 chapters of varying lengths. Each chapter is identified only by number. The opening of each chapter includes a small image of an ocean creature, such as octopuses, sharks, dolphins, and whales. Some of the images are to the right of the chapter number and some are to the left. The images do not correspond to the events of the novel though there are several chapters that have a dolphin at the opening. Then, the content of those chapters includes Socrates.
