Mordecai (Ezra) is Mirah's older brother. The siblings were separated when Mirah was very young. Mordecai is a devout Jew, and he is living penniless with a family when Daniel happens to find him and discover that he is Mirah's brother. Mirah describes her brother as a prophet, and Daniel considers him a great teacher. He dies of natural causes in the novel's conclusion.
