When Daniel is reunited with his father, they are both sent to the left in line. Explain the significance.

Those in the left line have been chosen to report to the barracks. They will be used for forced labor. Those in the right have been selected to go to the furnaces (crematoriums), where they will be killed. Daniel's mother and sister are sent to the right line.
