Who is Paul Northridge from Dalva and what is their importance?

Paul Northridge is Dalva's uncle. He spent much of his youth traveling the world but has since settled into a life traveling North and South America. Paul loves women and has several girlfriends, but he decides not to marry. Over the course of the novel, Paul becomes Dalva's father figure following her grandfather's death.
