Why does Ella tell Wesley he should not be cleaning up the debris?

Ella tells Wesley he should not clean up the debris from the broken door because he does not break it down. Wesley responds that they have to live in it until it gets cleaned up, and since his father is not back yet, he cleans it up for now.
