How does Paton vividly portray Johannesburg through Kumalo’s perspective? ( cry the beloved country)

Paton uses descriptive imagery to convey Stephen's disillusionment, fear, and consternation. He is a calm man.... almost resigned. Stephen's worry is evident, he feels for his family, but the further he travels from his village, the more of an outsider he becomes in his own country.
