In Part II, the community continues to show their concern. for the Morrison children. Matt is tired of the charity and suggests they learn to stand on their own. Luke, however, finds the charity helpful and considerate. This disagreement illuminates the struggle for control between the brothers and suggests a conflict looming in the near future. The disagreement also highlights the budding sexuality of both Luke and Matt. Matt teases Luke but Luke has already found himself in one compromising position that could threaten his job. This foreshadows not only trouble for Luke, but the possibility of a similar fate for Matt.
